RCMP are at the scene of a crash between a CP rail train hauling oil tankers and a Co-op petroleum semi-truck hauling fuel in Yorkton.
According to a news release, officers were called to the collision at Highway 9 and the railway crossing on the south side of the city around 11:30 a.m. Thursday.
Highway 9 is currently blocked, and police officers are diverting traffic onto Highway 10. Yorkton RCMP expect crews to have the area closed into the early evening while they continue the investigation and clean-up efforts.
In the media release, Mounties reminded drivers to “use caution when travelling in the vicinity of the collision and be aware of emergency personnel working on scene.”
Pictures shared on Twitter show the train stopped in the middle of the railway crossing and a semi sitting upright in the ditch next to it. There doesn’t appear to be flames or smoke in the photos.
Police haven’t said whether anyone was hurt in the collision.
However, Federated Co-op Limited tweeted out saying the driver of the fuel truck wasn’t injured, but that he’s receiving attention.
“Experts have been dispatched to clean-up any fuel spills. We’re working with RCMP to investigate,” Co-op said in the tweet.
More to come.
