The Saskatchewan Roughriders have announced they have parted ways with defensive line coach Mike Scheper.
In a news release Thursday, head coach Craig Dickenson said the decision “was a difficult one.”
“Mike is a tireless worker and a dedicated coach. In spite of this, we felt the decision was the right one for the team.
We thank Mike for his work and wish him the best in the future,” Dickenson added in the release.
The Roughriders sit in third place for the league lead in sacks with 16 through five games.
Scheper joined the team in 2016 for his second stint with the Green and White. He was also with the Roughriders in 2009 and 2010.
Scheper has also coached the Winnipeg Blue Bombers and Edmonton Eskimos. He was a member of the coaching staff for the Eskimos during their 2015 Grey Cup win.
The team hasn’t named a replacement at this time, indicating other members of the coaching staff will work with the defensive line until a new coach is hired.
