A sports lover, but not necessarily a diehard Roughriders fan, suggested to me that Riders fans should pump the brakes.
Yes, the 3-2-1 fact needs to be taken into account. The Riders have won a total of three games, against two teams that have a total of one win. I get it. Until this green team knocks off Hamilton, Calgary or Winnipeg, how legit is it? It’s a good question, but a question that has yet to be answered.
I go the other way on this. Back-to-back wins over B.C. should get fans excited about potential. The defence has been dominant, William Powell has been a threat, and Cody Fajardo has proven, albeit against a weaker defence, that he can win with the deep ball or the intermediate passing game.
The Grey Cup isn’t won in July, but a strong culture and confidence can be established with a new head coach in charge. A favourable schedule for this 3-3-0 team has played a role in the positivity. The team shouldn’t have to make apologies for that.
