The RCMP has linked fentanyl to another death in Saskatchewan.
In a media release Wednesday, the Assiniboia RCMP said new evidence had determined a man’s death in that town in March was the result of him consuming cocaine laced with fentanyl.
The RCMP is concerned that illicit drugs in Assiniboia, and in the province as a whole, also could contain fentanyl.
“The particular fentanyl-laced drug responsible for the death of a man in Assiniboia may still be circulating in Saskatchewan,” the RCMP said in the media release. “The general public across Saskatchewan should remain vigilant, in particular those involved with illicit drugs.”
The RCMP warned the public that fentanyl has been mixed with street drugs such as heroin and cocaine. Fentanyl also can be used in tablets that look like prescription drugs.
Anyone who comes into contact with fentanyl is urged to contact their local police department or their nearest RCMP detachment.
