8:30 – A Saskatoon police officer accused of assaulting a suspect during an 2016 arrest was found not guilty yesterday. Jarett Gelowitz punched, kicked, and kneed a suspect after a high-speed chase but Justice Richard Danyliuk, taking into account the size, strength, age, and gender of the parties involved, found the force used was not more than necessary to protect the officers and subdue the suspect. Gelowitz was fired from the police service after the assault charges were laid against him, and now the Saskatoon Police Association is calling for his reinstatement with back pay and legal costs. Dean Pringle, President of the Saskatoon Police Association and Vice-President of the Saskatchewan Federation of Police Officers, joins John now to discuss the case.

10:00 – Montreal-based “Internet linguist” Gretchen McCulloch, who’s currently the resident linguist with WIRED, has made a career examining the ways the Internet has rapidly changed our language and how we communicate. Her new book “Because Internet: Understanding the New Rules of Language” examines some of these changes and outlines the “new rules.” Is it rude or passive-aggressive to end an online message with a period? Does typing IN ALL CAPS mean you’re angry or excited? Does “lol” still mean “laughing out loud”? What are the style rules when you smash the keyboard to express? To help answer these questions and discuss the direction our language is heading, McCulloch joins John now.

11:00 – A new study polled 2,000 people but found only 68 per cent of men and 72 per cent of women consider themselves adults. Most Millennials considered 26 to be the official age of adulthood, while Baby Boomers placed it at 31. Some of the signs of adulthood given in the survey included having a budget, buying a house, filing your own taxes, doing your own laundry, making a grocery list, and listening to the nightly news. That’s got us wondering – when was the moment when you first considered yourself an adult? Was it a certain age, milestone, event, or lesson learned? Give us a call at 1-877-332-8255 and tell us when you first considered yourself an adult.
