The RCMP is urging the public to practise proper water safety following two recent cases of individuals drowning in northern Saskatchewan within two days.
On Wednesday, officers from the Pelican Narrows RCMP detachment were called to Father’s Lake, following the report of a missing male who had been swimming in front of the rocks and beach area of the lake. An RCMP boat was immediately dispatched to the scene.
The missing 28-year-old man was located a short time later by an individual. EMS and police officers performed CPR but were unsuccessful in reviving the male. The cause of death is not considered suspicious.
On Thursday, officers from the Green Lake RCMP detachment were called to the the Cowan Campground, located on Highway 155 for the report of a 67-year-old man who had been located deceased in a small creek near the campground.
Initial investigation determined that the man had fallen down a dirt embankment into an area of the creek where the water is eight to 10 feet deep. The cause of death is not considered suspicious.
