Construction may be the biggest headache for drivers in Regina this summer, but the city says the projects are progressing.
According to Chris Warren, the director of roadways and transportation with the City of Regina, the total construction completion overall is at 47 per cent.
“There’s really no end to the amount of work that needs to be done,” Warren said in response to complaints about the number of construction projects happening at one time.
“We’re just attempting to try to improve driving conditions in our infrastructure renewal programs as best we can, and co-ordinate with all the different stakeholders and just try to deliver on those levels of service as best they can.”
Warren said the work on Lewvan Drive is progressing well. Contractors are continuing their work on the concrete curbs and medians and paving is anticipated to happen in September.
The work on the bridges on Ring Road over Wascana Creek is moving along, crews have moved on to the bridge under the southbound lanes. On Wednesday afternoon, Warren said the work in the northbound lanes is finished, but late Wednesday evening he clarified by email that the bridge deck in the northbound lanes is still concrete and won’t be paved until the end of the project, when the contractor will do both bridge decks.
There is new construction the city has to worry about, thanks to a sinkhole that opened up in the intersection of Pasqua Street and Parliament Avenue last week.
Work to fix that situation started Wednesday, according to the city’s director of water, waste and environmental services, Pat Wilson. Because of the complexity of the situation, the work could continue into the weekend.
