8:30 – Mosaic’s Colonsay potash mine will soon be shut down, leaving roughly 350 workers laid off as the mine will run with a 52-person skeleton crew until prices improve. Mosaic reported a $233-million loss in the second quarter of 2019, and said many of their shipments were delayed due to the extremely wet planting season in the midwestern USA. StarPhoenix business reporter Alex MacPherson keeps a close eye on the province’s mining sector, and he joins John to discuss the closure in Colonsay.

12:00 – Sgt. Erin Coates, Canada’s first female police officer in Iraq, has completed her mission with the Police Task Force. Coates’ one-year deployment involved training local civilian security forces and police. The Canadian instructors focused on community policing topics, as well as negotiation, and de-escalation. Coates, a member of the Saskatoon Police Service, joins John now to discuss her time in Iraq.
