11:00 – More and more homes are being sold without kitchen stoves, as rental space becomes more valuable in urban centres and Millennials eat out more and more often. We saw a similar trend with sewing machines, which used to be present in every home. With fewer people than ever cooking and sewing, and technology doing more and more in our lives, are we losing what used to be considered essential skills? Do you know how to sew on a button, polish shoes, or set a table? Could you perform basic first aid, start a campfire, or navigate with a compass? Give us a call at 1-877-332-8255 and tell us what skills you think are disappearing as our society becomes more reliant on technology.
12:00 – There have been about 108 billion humans since our species first evolved, and of those, about half have been killed by mosquitos. Timothy Winegard’s new book “The Mosquito: A Human History of Our Deadliest Predator,” explores the dramatic effect mosquitoes have had on humanity over our history, killing billions, steering the fates of empires, and deciding the outcome of wars. Winegard joins John now to discuss the book and how the tiny pest has had such a huge impact on the human population.
