Hall of Fame weekend started with the most hotly debated CFL result ever and included some memorable events.
The Saskatchewan Roughriders beat the home-town Montreal Alouettes 17-10 in a game forfeited after an hour-long weather delay. The protocol is brand new and certainly needs to be adjusted, but rules are rules so the Riders will take the ugly victory.
Storms also affected the Folk Festival and a Garth Brooks concert in Regina, but everyone who attended was raving about each event. It’s a testament to the entertainers and the volunteers, who are Hall of Famers in anyone’s book. Saskatoon knows all about this, with the annual Jazz Festival and the six Garth Brooks concerts in 2016.
The real Hall of Famers were in Hamilton, where former Riders president Jim Hopson and six others were deservedly inducted into the Canadian Football Hall of Fame. And Serena Williams, arguably the world’s all-time best athlete, withdrew from the Rogers Cup tennis final against Canadian Bianca Andreescu.
What a memorable weekend!
