The generation before mine said it, the next generation will say it, and we are saying it now. “The world is getting complicated.”
That’s what I used to love, and still love, about watching or being at a sports event. I can escape. However, I was always, and still am, disheartened when sports and politics collide. I always found it sad when a politician showed up at a sports media conference or the opening ceremonies to an event to bring greetings. Most people I know watch or attend sports events to get away from the news cycle.
Now, more than ever, athletes give and are sadly being heard with, their take on the latest issues of the day.
Whether it be coverage of no-shows at the White House, live TV images of players taking a knee during an anthem, or stars being linked to a political party, sports just isn’t the escape from the world’s pressures that it use to be … and that’s unfortunate.
