Regina city council has been looking for a temporary use for the former Taylor Field site.
It appears increasingly unlikely that one possible use for the site — turning it into a parking lot — will happen.
In late July, Coun. Jerry Flegel raised the possibility of using the site for overflow parking for events like Saskatchewan Roughriders games, the Farm Progress Show or Canadian Western Agribition — all of which are held down the street at Evraz Place.
But an administration report being presented to city council Monday night advises against turning the site into a parking lot, referring to cost and possible disruption to existing transit plans such as Rider Transit.
The site has been empty since Taylor Field/Mosaic Stadium was demolished in October 2017.
City council also is to discuss Monday its plans for handling the train tracks on Ring Road at Winnipeg Street.
The city may look to relocate the tracks from Ring Road, but it’ll need the rail companies on board for that to happen.
Also on the agenda is a proposed property tax exemption to help the Regina Airport Authority entice U.S. airlines back to the Queen City.
The authority said the exemption was necessary if it was to once again offer direct flights to destinations in the States.
Another issue on the agenda is the possible rezoning of the former Sears warehouse on Broad Street.
The building currently houses the Centennial Market, but it could be rezoned to allow for the construction of a U-Haul self-storage building.
