Here’s the best question to come from Saskatchewan’s two-point victory over Winnipeg in the Labour Day Classic: When’s the rematch?
There are, of course, some other questions. Particularly: Why didn’t the Roughriders blow away the Blue Bombers, who were missing injured quarterback Matt Nichols and suspended tailback Andrew Harris? The home team dominated the early going and should have strolled to victory. What happened?
Saskatchewan’s defence was OK, but shoddy tackling allowed the Bombers to score a short-lived, go-ahead touchdown. Winnipeg’s stellar defence held the Roughriders to three second-half points, which came on a last-play, game-winning, walk-off, celebrate-in-Pil-Country field goal by Brett Lauther. Saskatchewan quarterback Cody Fajardo, showing plenty of poise for a first-year starter, constructed the drive that extended his team’s winning streak to six games.
The teams meet again Saturday in Winnipeg. It’s known as the Banjo Bowl. Riders coach Craig Dickenson said his team has to play better. Who thinks the winning streak will get to seven?
