People in the Broadview area having a medical emergency will have to travel elsewhere, because the emergency department at the town’s hospital is staying closed indefinitely.
The Saskatchewan Health Authority (SHA) announced the news in a media release posted to its website on Sept. 12; it had originally announced the closure on a temporary basis, intended to run from Aug. 30 to Sept. 16.
“Due to the inability to provide reliable and consistent lab/diagnostic and physician services at the Broadview Union Hospital, the Broadview Union Hospital emergency department and acute care services will remain closed for an undetermined period,” the media release said.
The SHA said it’s trying to recruit doctors and lab X-ray technicians to work in the hospital. “But at present, the positions remain unfilled. As a result, we are unable to provide consistent coverage to the emergency department.”
In the media release, the health authority recommended that anyone who’s having an emergency should call 911.
