That was a first.
I’ve been doing Saskatchewan radio for a decade now and Keith Urban was the first Grey Cup halftime show announcement that wasn’t met with voices of displeasure, skepticism or in the case of Justin Bieber … rage.
Yes, there are a few non-country fans who are a tiny bit annoyed but they recognize that Keith Urban is one of the biggest names in music, let alone country music.
But it’s definitely the first time I’ve ever had someone text in to say they may buy a ticket to the game based on the musical act helping justify the price of the ticket.
Urban is also one of the top guitar players and can play pretty well every genre of music. Who knows if he’ll play a few rock covers as well as his own classics, but the CFL and the Calgary Grey Cup committee did a heck of a job bringing a global superstar for its own championship game.
But now I wonder what the Riders may have up their sleeve for next year’s game. We can’t be outdone by Calgary, can we?
