There are two musts in being a Riders starting quarterback for a long time. You have to win, and you have to be loved by the fans. You can check both boxes when it comes to Cody Fajardo.
There are reports that contract talks between Fajardo’s camp and the Riders’ brass have started.
This is Fajardo’s first time as an undisputed starting quarterback, and 12 games doesn’t define a career. However it’s easy to see that he is the present and the future.
Fajardo has natural ability, but also a work ethic and an ability to learn from greats such as Ricky Ray and Travis Lulay which has brought him to this point.
GM Jeremy O’Day also deserves credit for having this vision. When the often-injured Zach Collaros was to be the starter four months ago at training camp, there were some questions as to whether or not there was a qualified QB behind Collaros.
With O’Day’s foresight and Craig Dickenson’s mentorship, there always was in Cody Fajardo.
