8:30 – The Jim Pattison Children’s Hospital completed the big move over the weekend, and is now accepting patients. Corey Miller, vice-president of provincial programs with the Saskatchewan Health Authority, joins John to discuss the services available at the new facility and how to access them, and what the opening of the new hospital means for healthcare delivery in Saskatoon and for others around the province.
LIVE: Corey Miller, VP of provincial programs with the Saskatchewan Health Authority.
9:00 – David Menzies, a reporter with the right-wing Rebel Media, was put in handcuffs yesterday by police after trying to report on one of Andrew Scheer’s campaign events in Whitby, Ont. When asked about the ousting, Scheer noted that he no longer speaks to the Rebel and said the event was a private one for accredited journalists only. Menzies said he was “astonished” by the reaction to him showing up because he believed Scheer was a supporter of press freedom, and he called his detainment “the kind of thing you see in a banana republic dictatorship.” Menzies is not the first right-leaning journalist to get the boot from a campaign event – the Liberals apologized to right-leaning reporter Andrew Lawton in late September after he was barred from a public rally where Trudeau was speaking. Menzies joins Gormley to discuss what happened and how he’s planning to cover future events.

11:00 – The NHL regular season starts tomorrow, and one controversial aspect of the game is coming under scrutiny once again – fighting. Jeremy Allingham’s new book “Major Misconduct: The Human Cost of Fighting in Hockey,” looks at the consequences of fighting in the most beloved sport in Canada. While many players, coaches, and fans encourage fighting, Allingham’s book examines the challenges players can face after they leave the ice, particularly around CTE (chronic traumatic encephalopathy). Allingham joins John now to discuss fighting in hockey, but we also want to know where you stand: Should fighting be banned? Give us a call at 1-877-332-8255 and join the conversation!
