Personal details, Name, age, hometown
Rosemarie Falk, 31, Lloydminster, Sask.
Tell us about yourself
I was born, raised and currently live in Lloydminster, Saskatchewan. I was raised by a father who was a farmer and an oilfield worker and a mother who worked as an aide with people who had physical, mental and developmental disabilities. I have a social work degree through the University of Calgary. I am married to my husband who works in the oilfield and have three children ages six, three and three months.
What is a little-known fact about you?
I Ukrainian danced for about 14 years.
Why should voters hire you?
I have had the privilege of serving as Member of Parliament for the riding of Battlefords-Lloydminster for just under two years. I have been a strong and vocal advocate for the communities and residents within the riding. In that time, in order to best represent the constituents of Battlefords-Lloydminster, I have prioritized being accessible to constituents, meeting with them, communicating with them, connecting with community leaders and engaging with RMs. I want to continue to fight for them in Ottawa not only for a stronger Canada today but also for the future generations to come. I want to keep fighting for families, the economy, farmers, and our oil workers.
Who should we call for a reference?
Andrew Scheer.
What is your greatest strength? What is your greatest weakness?
My greatest strength is my determination and work ethic. My greatest weakness is trying to do it all.
Where do you stand on:
Gun laws? I believe that law-abiding citizens who sport shoot or hunt should not have to go through endless hoops and red tape to be able to own guns. Guns need to be taken out of the hands of criminals and gangs. Rather than setting our sights on law-abiding gun owners, we need to ensure that our law enforcement agencies have the tools and resources they need to do their job.
The need for more pipelines? We need to build that pipe. We need to get our oil out of the ground, to market and to tide water. Build more pipe!!!!
Western alienation? I believe that western alienation is a real thing (I am hearing it at the doors) and we need a government who cares about federalism and focuses on projects that unite the country rather than dividing the country. Vote for Andrew Scheer!!!
China? What should our approach be with some of our markets blocked? I think that we need a government that takes trade and foreign policy seriously. We need a government that cares about our farmers including our pulse, canola and beef farmers. We need a minister of agriculture who will go and speak with China, who will be taken seriously and not virtue signal to them.
Are we facing a climate change crisis? Is carbon tax the answer? I believe that we always need to be good stewards of the environment and it is our job to teach our children how to do that and more importantly to show them by example. The carbon tax is not the answer. I have been very vocal in the House of Commons against the carbon tax. It’s a tax that punishes rural communities and does nothing to protect the environment. We need to focus on innovative solutions and there are great examples of that right here in Saskatchewan including zero-tillage farming and carbon capture.
It’s a day off and you can do anything you want. What would it be?
I would definitely hang out with the family and just have a normal day of life.
Who inspires you?
I would have to say my mom. She was a hard worker who taught us about our Ukrainian heritage (pinching those perogies and rolling those cabbage leaves). She is a cancer survivor and she is someone who always just got it done. No matter how busy life got or how tight the month’s end got, she taught me how to get it done — you work, you make time for your family and you pay your bills. She also taught me integrity and how to keep your word — a yes is a yes and a no is a no.
What is your hidden talent?
Being a millennial who can and who loves to polka!
What do you wish you could do but can’t?
Being patient — it is a hard skill.
Who are the three people, dead or alive, that you’d love to have dinner with?
(No answer provided)
How do you take your coffee?
Regular.
What’s the one album you’d take with you on a desert island? What embarrassing song do you admit to on your playlist?
I am not sure I would take an album because I would need a power source to actually play it! I don’t think that it is embarrassing, it’s just definitely different — Skrillex … you know, for when you need something hardcore at the gym.
What is your guilty pleasure?
Cream soda slurpees.
What is the last book you read?
To be honest, Finding Nemo.
What is your favourite TV show? What are you binge watching?
If I have to pick one — Friends … “Pivot, Pivot, I said PIVOT!!!!!!” But really, what candidate has time to watch anything, let alone binge watch?!?
What is your all-time favourite movie?
Mary Poppins — the original.
