It’s not how, it’s how many. For the Saskatchewan Roughriders, the number is 10. Ten victories, 14 games into this CFL season, puts the Riders in the West Division penthouse for the time being.
To grasp the magnitude of this accomplishment, the last time the Riders were 10-4-0 was in 1976.
What is impressive is how this team is winning.
Saturday’s 21-6 win over the Winnipeg Blue Bombers was, believe it nor not, highlighted by a three-point third quarter. Early in the quarter, Cody Fajardo risked his own health by diving over a players’ bench to pick up eight yards.
Seconds later Shaq Evans made a brilliant 49-yard catch on a tip. Those two plays only set up a 21-yard field goal. However, later in the third quarter, A.C. Leonard registered a sack, then Ed Gainey had an interception in the end zone.
Saskatchewan’s offence started to move the ball, and the defense gained momentum in a quarter where only three points were scored.
A three-point quarter made all the difference in the Riders getting to 10 wins on the season.
