A haul in the Rural Municipality (RM) of Corman Park last week proved to be very expensive for the driver of a semi-trailer truck.
Corman Park Police Chief Warren Gherasim told the Brent Loucks Show an officer on patrol pulled over the truck. After inspecting the load, the officer directed the driver to a weigh station.
The Corman Park Police Service said the load was more than three times what is allowed, and the driver was issued a ticket for more than $10,000. The road the semi was on has a 10-tonne weight limit.
“The issue is they’re causing damage to the infrastructure. These roads aren’t engineered to handle those weights, and intersections aren’t big enough to allow for turns,” said Gherasim.
Gherasim said there isn’t any excuse for drivers to exceed acceptable weight limits, as there are many ways to check that out before they head out on the road.
“They can access weight limits online, whether it’s a provincial highway through the Saskatchewan government Highway Hotline or in this case through the RM of Corman Park website, which posts all of our weight limits,” said Gherasim.
This fine isn’t even the largest that has been handed out in the RM.
“Not too long ago, on Baker Road, we stopped a super B (truck) which was 56 tonnes on a 10-tonne road. He ended up with a fine over $20,000,” said Gherasim.
