The victim of a fatal garage fire in Regina was to become a father in March.
Kelly David Strobl, 23, died Saturday from the injuries he suffered in Friday’s explosion in the 4400 block of Seventh Avenue.
On Tuesday, the Regina Fire Department said its investigation into the explosion found it was accidental.
A GoFundMe page was set up Tuesday to help Strobl’s family. The page is entitled “Kelly Strobl memorial baby fund.” His partner, Macheala Read, is expecting the couple’s first child.
“You touched the lives of so many people in so many ways,” the page read. “You lived your life to the fullest and have left us far too soon.
“It is with heavy hearts that we recognize your first born child will come into this world and not have the opportunity to know and be supported by her/his amazing father. In support of Kelly’s child, his family and their ever changed lives please show your support in these difficult times.”
More than $14,000 had been donated by early Wednesday afternoon. The page’s goal is $25,000.
According to an online obituary, Strobl attended Haultain and McDermid elementary schools and Thom Collegiate. He then completed his journeyman carpentry ticket in 2017.
“Kelly had many passions including sledding, motorcycles, trucks, snowboarding, quadding and mudding,” the obituary read.
A celebration of Strobl’s life is to be held Saturday, 1 p.m., at Regina Apostolic Church, 808 Assiniboine Ave. E.
