A Regina resident who caught a man breaking into his vehicle allegedly was threatened with a hatchet Thursday morning.
According to a media release from the Regina Police Service, officers were sent to Froom Crescent just after 5 a.m., for a report of an assault.
They were told that, after seeing someone in his vehicle, the owner approached it. The suspect climbed out of the vehicle, allegedly raised a hatchet and advanced toward the owner. The man then took off on a bicycle.
The victim wasn’t injured, but his vehicle was damaged and some of his items were stolen.
An 18-year-old man was located nearby by a canine unit. When the suspect was arrested, he had two guns, knives, a hatchet, a substance believed to be methamphetamine, break-and-enter tools, and bank cards belonging to the vehicle owner and to others.
The man faces 22 charges, including five each for carrying a concealed weapon and possession of a weapon. He’s to make his first court appearance on Tuesday.
