8:30 – The relationship between Western Canada and Ottawa has perhaps never been so strained, and while Justin Trudeau has promised to increase his efforts to reach out to Saskatchewan and Alberta and ensure the government works for all Canadians, many in the West remain doubtful. National Post Columnist Matt Gurney says outreach alone may not be enough for provinces that have already soured on Trudeau. While Trudeau obviously can’t just snap his fingers and twin the Trans Mountain Pipeline, Gurney says if Trudeau is serious about a good relationship with Alberta and Saskatchewan, he needs to stop the anti-oil messaging that caused so much anger and resentment. Gurney joins Gormley now to discuss what Trudeau can do to improve his relationship with the West.
