In a game featuring high winds and a snow-covered field, the Balgonie Greenall Griffins emerged as the winners in the Regina Intercollegiate Football League’s 5A championship game.
The Griffins defeated the Balfour Bears 47-14 at Leibel Field on Monday. At points throughout the game, volunteers and members of the Regina High Schools Athletic Association had to use shovels to clear the lines on the field as the snow continued to fall.
Greenall used a strong rushing attack that scored six touchdowns.
It was the third straight appearance in the city final for the Griffins. They won 21-12 over the Johnson Wildcats in 2017 but were defeated 24-3 by the Sheldon-Williams Spartans in 2018.
The Griffins will head to Saskatoon Minor Football Field on Saturday to meet the Saskatoon Bishop James Mahoney Saints in a 5A provincial semifinal.
