A 15-year-old youth has been charged with possession of stolen property in connection with the incident Sunday that left a Regina police officer with serious injuries.
In a media release Tuesday, the Regina Police Service said the teen was charged only with possession of the stolen vehicle that was at the centre of the investigation. A 29-year-old man is facing a number of charges, including attempted murder.
Police say officers identified the stolen vehicle in the Cornwall Centre parkade at around 3:45 p.m., and were approaching the vehicle when two males walked up to the SUV, a 2005 GMC Jimmy. When the youth saw the police, he walked away — before the other suspect got into a struggle with Cpl. Justin Duck.
The youth was later identified and arrested.
The teen, who can’t be named under the Youth Criminal Justice Act, made his first court appearance Tuesday on one charge each of possession of property obtained by crime under $5,000 and breach of an undertaking.
