A 23-year-old Regina man is facing 13 charges after an incident that ended with him being found in a railcar north of the city.
In a media release, the Regina Police Service said officers saw a Jeep Wrangler on Wednesday at about 1:50 a.m., that earlier had evaded police.
Police tried to stop the vehicle, but it ran a red light and took off. Then, just before 3 a.m., officers were told the Jeep had been seen abandoned near the weigh scales north of the city on Highway 11.
The vehicle was in the middle of the road, facing south in the northbound lanes.
After a police dog was called in, a suspect was found in a railcar east of where the Jeep had been found.
Officers determined the man had thrown a bag from the Jeep. They subsequently found the bag, which contained a loaded, sawed-off rifle, a knife and an expandable baton.
The man is facing eight weapons-related charges, along with flight from a peace officer, dangerous driving and other charges.
He made his first court appearance Wednesday.
