When the Winnipeg Blue Bombers added a rested Zach Collaros to their roster, some thought that they would be in a better position to win Sunday’s West Division semifinal at McMahon Stadium.
Collaros does help. He is a veteran. Chris Streveler has seen extensive playing time in the Manitoba capital this season, so Winnipeg does have the benefit of two quarterbacks with decent experience going into the game.
What some forget is the Stampeders have Nick Arbuckle on their roster. In nine games played this season, Arbuckle has a better completion percentage than Streveler and a better touchdown-to-interception ratio.
It may seem strange to focus on Calgary’s backup quarterback, when two-time Grey Cup champion Bo Levi Mitchell is healthy and ready to go, but this has been a season where backup quarterbacks have been a huge factor.
Unfortunately for the Bombers, the Stampeders have the edge in overall quarterback depth going into Sunday’s showdown.
