People who have been involved in pro football commonly say two things about the sport at that level.
1) Football is the ultimate team game.
2) Every game is won on the line of scrimmage.
Winnipeg proved both points to be true on Sunday night. The Bombers’ defence helped Winnipeg work on a short field on more than one occasion with some big plays.
While Andrew Harris deserves to be named Grey Cup MVP, the Bombers’ offensive line with players such as Stanley Bryant, Jermarcus Hardrick and Saskatchewan-born Patrick Neufeld dominated Hamilton’s defensive front.
Not only did Winnipeg protect the football all game, but had a 10-minute advantage over the Tiger-Cats in time of possession.
That’s a statistic that those involved with the offensive line should be proud of, and a stat that Zach Collaros, Chris Streveler, Andrew Harris and other Bombers playmakers should be thankful for.
That was the difference in Winnipeg’s 2019 Grey Cup victory.
