WestJet is resuming its direct flights out of Regina to sun destinations Orlando, Fla. and Phoenix, Ariz. starting on Jan. 5.
The move comes after the Calgary-based company removed Regina from its list of airports affected by the Boeing 737 Max plane groundings.
“WestJet continues to work with Transport Canada and other regulators while awaiting the impending software enhancements and training requirements for the Boeing MAX aircraft,” the company said in a blog post on its website.
It means vacationers can fly out of YQR direct to Orlando on Fridays and direct to Phoenix on Saturdays until Feb. 4.
That leaves a four-week window for travellers to take advantage of the direct flights.
“The Max issue has been a worldwide issue. We’re pleased to see a mainline carrier (WestJet) resume these flights,” Regina airport CEO James Bogusz said.
WestJet had originally cancelled the routes from November to January, due to the Max planes issue.
