Cirque du Soleil is coming back to Saskatchewan in the new year, but this time its performers are bringing their skates with them.
The high-flying acrobats will perform the on-ice spectacle called Axel for stops in Saskatoon and Regina in July.
Axel combines an inspirational and musical storyline with graphic art for a one-of-a-kind show, the company said in a media release.
Inspired by big arena concerts, the show highlights acrobatic skating performances with pop music, visual effects, lighting and laser shows.
Axel lands in Saskatoon for a run of shows from July 9 to July 12 at SaskTel Centre. The show then moves to Regina’s Brandt Centre for shows running from July 23 to July 26.
Being on ice, the show brings a new look to the idea of freestyle skating. Audiences can expect to see a heavy dose of pairs, solo and adiago skating.
Tickets go on sale Wednesday at 10 a.m.
