Finding a safe ride home this Christmas season after having one too many rum and egg nogs? There’s an app for that.
The SGI Safe Ride app has received technical upgrades, adding more options and a new look.
It uses your location to find all the options for a ride home in your area, including the recently added rideshare option in addition to taxis, designated driver companies like First Choice, and bus routes.
The app also allows users to create a personal list of designated drivers with the option to add phone numbers of friends and family.

“SGI is committed to reducing impaired driving in Saskatchewan, and this app has been helping people find a safe ride home since 2012,” Penny McCune, chief operating officer of the Auto Fund, said in a news release.
“The latest technical upgrades mean a faster and easier user experience and include the addition of rideshare options now that these are available in some Saskatchewan communities. The refreshed look builds on our Be a Good Wingman message, reminding people to never let impaired friends and family drive.”
SGI said that, in 2018, there were 739 collisions leading to 359 injuries and 43 deaths in Saskatchewan where impairment was a factor.
The SGI Safe Ride app is free and can be downloaded on the App Store or Google Play Store.
