From mopping robots to smart TVs, Christmas is sure to be full of hi-tech gifts this year.
Marc Saltzman, a tech journalist, provided a breakdown of the hottest items.
Floor cleaning robots have come a long way. Advanced models can map out a person’s entire house, and identify separate rooms.
“Then, you can verbally say, ‘clean my kitchen,’” he explained.
Once you give the command, the job is completely seen to by the machine.
“When it’s done, it will actually go and empty its own bag for you.”
There’s even a model that mops and will work together with vacuum robots.
However, that’s just the start of household tech that resembles the futuristic cartoon The Jetsons. Smart plugs let you turn any appliance in your house on or off with a phone app or voice command. An indoor camera has also been developed. It lets you check what’s going on in your home at any time.
Saltzman also brought up entertainment technology. He said smart TVs get more popular every year.
“They’re getting bigger, the prices are dropping, and they’re becoming smarter.”
“A lot of these TVs have a built-in personal assistant… you can actually activate Google or in some cases Alexa throught these smart TVs.”
Common among this tech is the ability to use voice control. Saltzman thinks that’s the way of the future.
“Voice is, to me, the most natural interface.”
