Mounties in La Loche are asking for the public’s help in finding a man who they say sped away during a traffic stop with an RCMP member, dragging the police officer more than 50 metres with his vehicle.
Colin Evan Lemaigre, 32, faces several charges, including assaulting a peace officer with a weapon, among others.
A news release from the RCMP said a constable stopped the vehicle at about 8 p.m. on Saturday on Highway 155, south of La Loche.
“While the constable was speaking with the driver and occupants of the car, the vehicle suddenly sped off. The constable was dragged for 50 to 100m before coming free from the vehicle and falling to the roadway,” the release said.
The officer suffered injuries and was treated in a hospital. He has since been released.
The news release did not specify the officer’s injuries or where he was treated.
An arrest warrant has since been issued for Lemaigre.
The La Loche RCMP detachment is requesting any information the public may have about the incident; people can phone the detachment at 306-822-2010, or call Crime Stoppers.
