After unboxing gifts, chances are you will be left with lots of wrapping material.
The City of Regina is reminding people to keep non-recyclable material out of blue bins.
Wrapping paper, if it comes with a metallic coating or glitter, cannot be recycled, said Janet Aird, manager of waste diversion with the city.
“All your ribbons and bows can’t be recycled, your gift bags can’t be recycled either or tissue paper,” she said.
As well, artificial Christmas trees cannot be recycled either.
Earlier this year, the city randomly checked blue bins, finding that 28 per cent of those surveyed were recycling correctly.
Aird said the most common mistakes people made was putting crinkly plastic bags like those used to package chips, in the bin.
People were also trying to recycling No. 1 to No. 7 plastics and Styrofoam.
“It can be confusing and so this is just to help bring some clarity to some of those things and it was good to see what kinds of things people were confused about,” Aird said.
