The Saskatchewan Roughriders have released linebacker Derrick Moncrief so he can pursue an NFL opportunity.
Moncrief spent the past three CFL seasons with the Roughriders.
In 2019, he recorded 69 defensive tackles, four special-teams tackles, four sacks, three interceptions and one forced fumble in 17 regular-season games. The 26-year-old product of Prattville, Ala., was named a West Division all-star and a CFL all-star.
The 6-foot-2, 220-pound product of Oklahoma State University was set to become a free agent on Feb. 11.
Defensive back Nick Marshall back for 2020 season
The club also annnounced defensive back Nick Marshall has signed an one-year contract extension. It will keep him with the team through the 2020 season.
Marshall is entering his third season with the Roughriders, initially signing back in April 2018.
In 2019, Marshall recorded 39 tackles, five interceptions, one touchdown and a fumble recovery. The 27-year-old’s five picks were good for third most in the CFL.
