For many people, the cold is more than just unpleasant.
The Ministry of Social Services is reminding people that shelter space is still available across the province.
“These extreme temperatures are dangerous for those spending time outside, especially for people who don’t have shelter or a home,” read a statement from Social Services Minister Paul Merriman.
If anybody finds themselves without a roof over their heads, the province is urging them to call 911 or their community partners.
There is a long list of them in Regina:
- Saskatchewan Health Authority
- Street Culture
- Downtown Browne’s Emergency Youth Shelter
- YWCA Regina
- Salvation Army
- City of Regina
- Mobile Crisis
- Carmichael Outreach
- United Way
- Souls Harbour
- Regina Police Service
- Ministry of Social Services
In Regina, Mobile Crisis Services can be reached 24 hours a day, seven days a week at 306-757-0127 to connect people with shelter.
“If you are aware of anyone that may be at risk, don’t hesitate to call. We have toques, mitts and socks available for those in need, thanks to donations from the community,” said John McFadyen, executive director of Mobile Crisis.
On weekdays, people can also head to the Ministry of Social Services’ Regina Service Centre at 2045 Broad St.
