A 26-year-old man has been charged with attempted murder after an incident in Regina on Saturday afternoon.
According to the Regina Police Service, Vernon Joseph Pelletier was arrested after officers responded to a report of a weapons offence in the 1400 block of Retallack Street at about 1:20 p.m.
When officers arrived, they found an injured man inside a home. He was taken to hospital with what police described as serious injuries.
Witnesses told police that the victim had been stabbed and identified a suspect, whom officers found nearby. He gave police a false name, but officers confirmed his identity and arrested him.
Pelletier, who also was charged with obstructing a police officer, made his first court appearance Monday.
EDITOR’S NOTE: On April 14, 2023, a judge ruled Pelletier had committed an aggravated assault during the incident, but he was found not criminally responsible by reason of mental disorder.
