Environment Canada says Saskatchewan is coming up on a “rollercoaster” week of weather.
Two separate low-pressure systems are about to hit the province before a big change Tuesday night. The systems will bring seasonally mild temperatures, along with breezy conditions.
A strong cold front is set to roll through Saskatchewan later on Tuesday, causing temperatures to plummet through Wednesday.
Environment Canada meteorologist Brad Vrolijk said wind will be a factor as well.
“Right now we have a very, very cold air mass over the arctic,” he said. “It will be quite unpleasant outside. We’ll see wind chills dipping down to the mid-minus thirties (Tuesday into Wednesday) with that.”
Temperatures will begin to climb back up to seasonal values Thursday and into the weekend, according to Vrolijk.
He said with the extreme change in temperature, there are still some aspects to be mindful of.
“If anyone has travel plans, make sure you keep a winter survival kit in your car (and) you need to fend off the cold for a while,” Vrolijk said.
“Just be prepared for a big change in the weather come Tuesday night.”
Seasonal normal temperatures for this time of year in Saskatoon hover around -7 C and -17 C. Regina’s seasonal values fall between -8 C and -20 C.
