8:30 -The federal government is preparing an aid package for Alberta that could dull the pain if the government blocks the Frontier Mine project over environmental and wildlife concerns, according to reports released Friday. The $20-billion project is projected to create thousands of jobs, and is considered essential for growth in Alberta. Calgary MP Michelle Rempel Garner didn’t mince words, calling on Minister of Natural Resources Seamus O’Regan to “Give us our project. Take the rest and stuff it.” She says the move would essentially make Albertans dependent on the government for “welfare cheques,” something she said is not an acceptable option. Rempel Garner joins Gormley now to share her reaction to the news, and discuss the federal government’s goal of reaching zero greenhouse gas emissions by 2050.
