8:30 – Wednesday saw some big developments in the labour dispute at Regina’s Co-op Refinery Complex, as the province appointed special mediator Vince Ready to help resolve the dispute. Ready’s appointment was welcomed by both locked-out Unifor members and Co-op management, and he will start a 20-day mediation period on Feb. 18. The other major development saw Unifor fined a quarter-million dollars for contempt of court, after ignoring a prior injunction limiting the picketers’ ability to hold up trucks entering and exiting the refinery. Scott Doherty is Unifor’s lead negotiator on the file, and he joins Gormley to discuss the latest developments and how the union is feeling heading into mediation.
