Welcome to the curling hotbed of Canada for 10 days — Moose Jaw.
It’s the home of the 2020 Scotties, five years after it last hosted the best female curlers in the country.
Oh, let me rephrase that — where it’s hosting most of the best female curlers in Canada.
While I’ll always believe the Canadian championship does need representation from all the provinces, I still feel there is a way to ensure that Jennifer Jones and Tracy Fleury could just both play in the regular draw rather than play for the wild-card spot tonight.
We have Northern Ontario and three territories teams, but I’m having a hard time when six-time champ Jennifer Jones may have to sit out these Scotties while unranked teams will just be happy with a single win this week.
While this new format is better with Team Wild Card representing the best team that didn’t win its provincial playdown, I think there should be room for more. How about a wild-card team for both the A and the B pool?
I want to see the best format for the best teams over just the best politically correct format.
