Regina police are investigating two deaths over the weekend, suspected of being caused by drug overdoses.
A media release from RPS said neither case is conclusive yet —only the coroner can make that determination — but it wants to warn the public about the consequences of illegal drug use.
Friday night at about 9:30 pm., police were sent to a home near McCarthy Boulevard and Eden Avenue. They found a 28-year-old man dead.
“There was no evidence at the scene that would suggest the death was a criminal case, but there was ample evidence of drug use,” the release said.
Then Saturday morning at about 2:45 a.m., police attended a home near 2nd Avenue and McTavish Street. Dispatchers were told there might have been somebody there who was overdosing on drugs.
Police and EMS found a 37-year-old woman dead.
RPS said it has been aware of 46 drug overdoses in the city this year. Of these cases, police were at 29 of them, using the antidote Naloxone 12 times.
The public is being urged to call 911 in case of an overdose. They’re being warned of the symptoms: slow or no breathing, gurgling, gasping or snoring; clammy, cool skin; blue lips or nails.
RPS adds that the law protects anybody who is experiencing a drug overdose or is in the presence of one happening, when they call 911.
