This latest cold snap should not last much longer.
Extreme cold warnings had been issued for parts of central Saskatchewan, but they were lifted Wednesday morning.
“We have an arctic ridge of high pressure that has moved over Saskatchewan and is headed southeast across the Prairies,” said Sara Hoffman, a meteorologist with Environment Canada.
“As the day progresses, that ridge of cold air is going to continue to move southeast and move off. We’re expecting warming.”
Regina could see a daytime high of -14 C. Overnight, the low is forecast at -22 C.
“Make sure to plug in vehicles if you’re parking them outside overnight. Keep in mind those most vulnerable populations. Make sure children are bundled up on their way to school. Pets and animals, make sure they’re not spending too much time outside,” Hoffman said.
“Consider packing a winter survival kit in your car which could include blankets and mitts but also matches in case your car breaks down and you need to wait for help to arrive.
She said typically, the high in Regina would be -6 C so temperatures currently are well below seasonal.
However, they will swing towards being unseasonably warm. The high Thursday could be as high as 0 C.
