8:30 – As the blockades across Canada continue to hamstring industries, Premier Scott Moe is leading the calls for action from the Trudeau government in Ottawa. On Wednesday Moe, who chairs the Council of the Federation, held a conference call with Canada’s premiers to discuss the rail blockades. Moe spoke with Trudeau after the call, and says the premiers want to meet with the PM quickly to discuss a peaceful resolution to the protests against the Coastal GasLink pipeline in B.C. Moe says there’s been a lack of federal leadership on the issue, and after two weeks of blockades the Prime Minister has “offered no course of action to protect the economic interests of our nation.” Moe joins Gormley now to discuss the blockades, and the action he and his fellow premiers would like to see from Ottawa.

10:00 – Workers and management at Regina’s Co-op Refinery Complex are currently in mediation, working to end the labour dispute which has dragged on since early December. On Wednesday, Federated Co-operatives Limited announced it will be giving cash payouts to independently-contracted trucking companies that were affected by the union’s illegal blockades at the refinery. Co-op says it will pay out 75% of what the truckers would have been making, applied retroactively to lease operators in Regina, Alberta, and Winnipeg. Co-op’s Vic Huard joins Gormley to discuss the compensation and why Co-op felt it was necessary to compensate truckers.

11:00 – After a season playing only on half-ice, the Saskatchewan Hockey Association has moved novice hockey back to full ice in some regions while keeping the half ice format in others, effective Jan. 1. When the half-ice move was first announced last year, it created controversy as some argued that half-ice resulted in more ice time for the teams and helped them develop puck-handling skills, while others said the smaller ice surface wasn’t teaching kids to play the proper game and increased the risks of injuries and collisions. Saskatchewan Hockey GM Kelly McClintock joins Gormley to talk about half-ice vs. full and some of the feedback they’ve heard from parents. Which is better for learning hockey players? Would you rather see your kids playing on full-ice or half-ice? Give us a call at 1-877-332-8255 and tell us which format you’d rather see.
