Pratt’s OT marker pushes Pats past Wheat Kings

It took some come-from-behind heroics and a few extra minutes of play, but the Regina Pats beat the Brandon Wheat Kings 4-3 in overtime in WHL action Sunday at the Brandt Centre.

Austin Pratt’s goal at 2:13 of OT helped the Pats snap a four-game losing streak, giving the team a 20-31-4-2 record.

Pratt finished the game with a goal and an assist.

Brandon opened the game’s scoring on an even-strength goal from Chad Nychuk at 8:10 of the first period.

From then until late in the third period, Regina was playing catch-up.

With less than five minutes to go in the third, and down 3-2, Pats forward Carter Chorney managed to come through for his side.

He notched a short-handed goal at 16:17 to tie the game 3-3 while teammate Ryker Evans was in the box serving a cross-checking penalty.

It was enough to send the game to overtime where Pratt delivered. His even-strength goal was his 19th of the season.

Pats goalie Donovan Buskey also had a hand in the victory, stopping 31 of 34 shots, including two in overtime.

Brandon netminder Ethan Kruger stopped 24 of 28 shots in the loss. Brandon (31-21-4-2) remains in third place in the league’s East Division.

Regina sits in fifth place in the division.

The Pats next play at home on Friday against the Medicine Hat Tigers.
