8:30 – Looking at the news lately you might think the entire province of B.C. is united in opposition to the Coastal GasLink pipeline project, but a handful of protesters do not speak for the entire region. Lori Ackerman is the mayor of Fort St. John, B.C., and has been a tireless advocate for the energy industry and pipeline construction. She was named Canadian Energy Person of the Year in 2019 by the Energy Council of Canada due to her efforts to strike a balance between energy development, community representation, and First Nations partnerships. Ackerman joins Gormley now to discuss the strong support for pipeline construction in B.C., which has gone largely ignored in the recent coverage of the nationwide protests.

10:00 – When people trespass on farms, they can potentially carry diseases and toxic substances which could affect the health of the animals. The Health of Animals Act provides for the control of diseases and toxic substances, but only applies to the animals’ owners. Conservative MP John Barlow recently tabled a private member’s bill designed to make it an offence under the act to enter a place where animals are kept without lawful excuse, if doing so could result in the exposure of the animals to a disease or toxic substance. Barlow joins Gormley to discuss his bill, and why agricultural trespassers can pose such a risk to biosecurity.

11:00 – Former Saskatchewan resident Ron Woznow is leading a campaign to make one of the province’s most famous residents the face of Canada’s new $5 bill. Woznow says Tommy Douglas would be the perfect choice for the new bill, due to his role in Canada’s universal healthcare system, as well as his activism and desire to create a better society for all. Woznow joins Gormley to discuss the campaign, and we want to know what YOU think! Is Tommy Douglas the best choice for the $5, or is there another famous face you’d rather see on the fiver?
