The Montreal Alouettes officially announced Wednesday the signing of former Saskatchewan Roughriders receiver Naaman Roosevelt.
The 32-year-old product of Buffalo, N.Y., became a CFL free agent Feb. 11.
Roosevelt spent the previous five CFL seasons with the Roughriders, catching 301 passes for 4,134 yards and 20 touchdowns in 67 regular-season games. In 2019, he recorded 77 receptions for 946 yards and a touchdown.
He had two seasons in which he exceeded 1,000 yards receiving (1,095 in 2016, 1,035 in 2017) and was named a West Division and league all-star in 2017. He was Saskatchewan’s nominee for the CFL award as most outstanding player in 2016.
Two other receivers who played for the Roughriders last season — Emmanuel Arceneaux and Cory Watson — remain on Saskatchewan’s list of free agents.
The Roughriders’ receiving corps currently comprises a younger core, with veterans like Shaq Evans, Kyran Moore, Kenny Stafford and Jordan Williams-Lambert, and younger players like Brayden Lenius, Justin McInnis, Paul McRoberts and Mitch Picton.
