The Regina Police Service said Friday the incident that led to more than a dozen police cars descending on Harbour Landing on Thursday afternoon started with a suspected case of shoplifting.
In a media release, police said they were called at about 12:30 p.m., to a store in the 4700 block of Gordon Road for a gun call.
“A male and female were observed leaving the store without paying for merchandise,” the police release said. “When confronted outside the store, the male suspect lifted up his shirt and displayed a firearm tucked into his pant line, and threatened to shoot. The two were then observed entering a nearby condo.”
Officers surrounded the condo and told the occupants to come out. Four people did, including the two suspects.
The items from the store were recovered and the 18-year-old man was arrested. Police found a plastic cap gun outside the condo.
Among the charges the man faces are three counts of assault with a weapon, shoplifting under $5,000, and use of an imitation firearm during flight after commission of indictable offence.
He was to appear in court Friday.
