Regina police urge vigilance during tax time as CRA scam circulates

It’s tax season and Regina police are urging people to protect their personal information.

They say fraudsters are calling people, impersonating the Canada Revenue Agency or Service Canada.

According to police, the caller will tell the victim they are under investigation and threaten legal action unless the target hands over personal information like their Social Insurance Number.

Police say, don’t be intimidated, hang up and never give personal or financial information to somebody over the phone.

If you suspect you are in fact being audited, call the CRA directly or Service Canada.

For those who have already disclosed sensitive information, police are asking them to make a report at their headquarters.
