Edmonton Oilers fans have started the “MVP” chants as voting will commence soon on which NHL player should be deemed most valuable to his team and handed the Hart Trophy.
The chants are not for Connor McDavid, but Leon Draisaitl.
The NHL’s leading scorer is now looking like an incredible bargain for the Oilers at under $9 million per season.
More than 100 points and climbing. But should he be the MVP? Should it go to Connor McDavid as he’s the best player on that team, without scoring the most points?
What would the Oilers be without McDavid? They were 3-2-1 without him a month ago and Draisaitl had 12 points in those six games.
That is a huge boost to the Draisaitl-for-MVP argument.
I like Nathan MacKinnon. He’s fifth in scoring and has held the Colorado Avalanche in the race for top spot in the Western Conference despite several injuries to other key players on the team.
It’ll be a heck of race, but I’m not convinced Leon Draisaitl is the most valuable player on the Oilers, let alone the entire NHL.
